Founders' Welcome

Pastor Derrick and Mrs Paulette Wilson

Twenty-three years ago, during a search for a pre-school for our daughter, my husband and I grew increasingly concerned and frustrated by the lack of schools which promoted academic excellence and proudly celebrated Christian values.  Through this experience, Tabernacle School was born.  We are a school where Christ is placed at the centre of learning and there is a holistic understanding of the needs of our children.

Our holistic provision is underpinned by a principle I am passionate about - no significant learning can take place without significant relationships; it is this relationship which inspires and motivates maximum learning and promotes respect for each other in the school community and beyond.  Our unique approach and emphasis on pastoral care has allowed students from diverse cultures and backgrounds to join our school community, something I am very proud of.

One of my favourite scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11:
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

My hope is for each student to know that God has a plan for their lives, and they have a unique opportunity at Tabernacle School where anything is possible if they are prepared to face challenges and work hard.  From their time spent with us, they will find it both a fruitful and rewarding experience as they develop the knowledge, skills, and characteristics needed for their life-long journey of learning.

As Chairman of Tabernacle school I take an active role in School assemblies where I reinforce the focus of the students' purpose in the school which is; to prepare for their future successes. We teach scriptural references to the students to enable them to apply them to their lives. The students can use the Bible as a practical tool by making the teachings relevant to everyday living.

One example is ‘love thy neighbour as thyself’, which teaches the students to treat others as they would like to be treated. The students are also proactive in conducting assemblies themselves which enables them to develop public speaking skills and self-confidence.

As the moral and spiritual standards decline in society we need to teach traditional values to our children if we are going to turn back the tide of chaos in our schools. Political correctness has gone mad and has eroded truth so our children are left in a situation of confusion as to what is right and wrong. It is essential that we invest the best that we have in our children as their future rests in our hands. I firmly believe that the students at Tabernacle School have the potential to be the leaders of tomorrow.
